As you've probably figured out by now, my name is Sam, and I am a high school student. When I was younger, I struggled with maintaining a healthy weight and eating a healthy diet. I was born prematurely and my twin and I were pretty small. We didn't even hit the growth chart until we were six. We were allowed to eat anything we wanted as long as we ate. But by grade four I was pudgy. I ignored everything my pediatrician, and even the nutritionist said concerning a healthier lifestyle. I embraced good health only when it became important to me. I think this goes for all of us: You have to want to change--not have someone else want you to change, to be fully invested in healthy.
I first became interested in my health in 8th grade because my science class (thanks, Mrs. Weiss) had a focussed unit on eating healthy. We reviewed the food groups, vitamins, minerals, etc. I really took this to heart. Fast forwarding to me now, I wake up every morning at 5:30 a.m. to exercise before school. I do this because my school day finishes at 5:30-5:45 p.m, and there is very little time to get exercise after school with homework and extracurriculars.
My workout routine consists of aerobic activity (usually on an elliptical) 4 times a week, lifting weights 2-3 times a week (depending on my previous workout), and of course I try to fit in sports whenever possible. I won't bore you with my entire diet (on this page at least. Some will probably pop up in other pages.) To sum it up: I watch what I eat, I exercise regularly, and even though it is hard to make it a priority, I believe it is totally worth it.
